We grew up in a small Midwestern town in central Michigan, where our fathers taught and led at Central Michigan University. We met at the sparkling age of ten in Mrs. LaTurneau's 4th grade class at a time when bell-bottom jeans, mood rings and Bobby Sherman were all that mattered. Our shared experiences as young girls and women - dance class, joint Homecoming dates, county fair rides, building parade floats, trick-or-treating, graduation and wedding days - were fibres that helped build the fabric of our lives. Taking different paths after college, we both set off as passionate young women to make our mark on the world, Sara to the East Coast and Cindy to the West Coast.
We each experienced corporate America first hand, from the golden opportunities to the pitfalls. Each in our own way maneuvered masterfully through our career, guided by a drive to succeed and a keen sense of the dynamics at play in a male-dominated business world. As the years unfolded, we both discovered something unique - that as strong, confident businesswomen, we had an intuitive sense of relating, bonding and nurturing that produced superior results in the workplace. That model became our foundation to thrive.
During a visit, and over more than a couple glasses of wine, we discussed how our career paths have synergistically paralleled each other and the notion of many shared philosophies sparked new ideas! And thus, the feminine approach to business - the concept of the Cashmere Glove& - was born. Who knew the fabric we started to make when we were girls would be cashmere?
Today, over 30 years after we first met, we are successful businesswomen - but not void of the battle scars to prove it. Throughout many years and across many miles, we have remained close friends, recognizing the value of a lifelong friendship, feeling connected to one another not only because of our shared history but, remarkably, because of our shared "Herstory".
